Memorials

If we are lucky, we meet the horse that changes our lives! When they are done with us, they move on, but not in our hearts. If you would like to honor that special horse, this is your page. Send in information and a picture and a small donation and we would be happy to put them all together.

In Memory of Santana Satin and Gold
Kathy Castro

The Santana Center is named after the first horse that really pushed me to think, feel and grow as a rider, trainer and as a person. He taught me about unconditional love, trust and patience. His last lesson for me was about letting go and taking his message further. This center was established in his memory to honor some of the gifts he left with me: Be open to learning. Everyone has something to teach you but what you use will be between you and your horse. Horsemanship is more than just riding and competing. Be aware of every interaction and what it brings to you.

In Memory of Commander's Cadence
Shirley Hoffman

It is with much sadness that I annouce the death of Commander's Cadence. This wonderful stallion was owned for the past seventeen years by NESA member Shirley Hoffman. As some of you know Shirley is the owner of Horses Forever a non-profit horse rescue of which myself and Kathy Castro are involved.

Shirley owns a few stallions and enjoys them. When I asked her why she rescues stallions here is her answer in her own words;

"I rescue stallions, with love! They're such a joy to own! Stone of Fortune has turned into such a sweet, loving stallion, he is just lovely! AND then there's SS Dancing Color - what a genuine 5-gaited guy is he! He's 29 yrs old and thinks he's 10 or something near that - he has terrible scars on the bridge of his nose and he's having trouble keeping good weight BUT he just loves life and LOVES the other stallions in the barn.

What a joy they are - I'm so glad I've had this opportunity in my life to give and take with these gentlemen.

I have to tell you that the barn is very somber today. Magic (Preferred Magic - son of Preferred Property) is across the aisle from Cadence's stall and he's got his head out his door and just isn't saying anything. He smelled Cadence's sheet as I took it out to bring it in to wash it and he just didn't want me to take it away from his nose. Those two spent the last 17 years together he is very sad!"

To love a horse

To love a horse means never sleeping in again on weekends To love a horse means sleepless nights wondering if the barn is warm enough

To love a horse is to love unselfishly and unconditionally because to be loved by a horse means the same.

To love a horse means to trust no matter what.

To love a horse means giving up that new pair of designer shoes for two pairs of iron ones.

To love a horse is to be free of judgment

To love a horse is to have a best friend and a shoulder to cry on all hours of the night

To love a horse is to be carried that extra mile when you feel you can’t take another step on your own.

To love a horse means having that earthy smell and loving it.

To love a horse means hair, hay and shavings as your permanent wardrobe accessory.

To love a horse means to feel the heart of God and know his love through this majestic gift.

To love a horse is feeling your heart beat to the same rhythm as your horse’s hoof beats

To love a horse is getting up after a fall and trying again.

To love a horse is finding peace in a warm nuzzle and a soft breath on your cheek

To love a horse is knowing there will always be a warm welcome when you enter the barn especially if you have carrots.

To love a horse means letting go when it is time.

To love a horse means having hoof prints on your heart and soul forever.

To love a horse is talking about manure and not getting grossed out.

To love a horse is having happy hour at the barn and never needing alcohol.

To love a horse is to dance your heart out and never worry your horse will laugh at you

To love a horse is to have the experience of your life and know you’ve found real life to experience.

To love a horse is learning to forgive and be forgiven

Of all the things to be thankful for, I’m thankful I was given the chance to love a horse
